Autechre: Laxir - Autechre Remixes 1994-2005

I've always been a big fan of Autechre's work. With their genuine style of electronic music which varies from catchy IDM tunes to (quite) abstract soundscapes they always manged to add something very exciting to their records. Besides the large number of albums and eps they were also busy as bees putting out a large number of remixes. Unfortunately, an official compilation was never released (maybe due to rights issues?) and so a couple of years ago I compiled a 6 disc home brew collections of Autechre's remixes all created between 1994-2005.

The tracks which are in rough chronological order display also the evolution of Autechre and more general the the change of electronic music over a decade. From dreamy ambient tracks like Saint Etienne's "Like A Motorway (Skin Up, You're Already Dead)" over to pushing tracks like Merzbow's "Ecobondage [Ending] Ae Remix" and abstract pieces like Hecker's "Itiso161/ae". My favorites are probably "Autechre Play Weissensee Against Im Glück" (composed by Neu!) with its drifting beats and the beautiful collaboration with post rockers Tortoise on "Ten-Day Interval (Adverse Camber)". The youtube playlist below features some of the compilation's tracks.
This version of Laxir is the second version which was finished in 2008 seeing some minor updates and including some cover artwork. You will also find included in the archives a text file with more specific information about the individual tracks. Cheers!

  9. You need winrar, 7zip or another program that can handle rar files in order to open this (preferably a new version). You just need to unrar the first file (part 1) - other ones will be extracted automatically then.

Ahh, and my thanks goes to the artists...

  10. Great. Thank you so much.

Do you know if they did any remixes after 2005? And if so, are you going to update Laxir?

  11. They did so. Thought it slowed down a little bit I can see at least two tracks at http://perso.numericable.fr/autechre/ beeing released after 2005 and I think there will be an future update to this release.

  13. I hope you're proud of yourself, as you should be!

I appreciate that this must have taken time.

I recall going through the remixes by Ae that I had about 6 years ago, and the sorting/tagging/fiending for info from the interweb was taking over my life!

And to think I even had a girlfriend at the time, so I couldn't use being single as an excuse for such an interesting waste of time.

1-This collection is (I assume) 100% in effect! It can't really get any better (unless you track down every release on it's original format and do flac uploads of every one of them! C'mon, we all need to live 'n' eat!

    2-It's presented and tagged wonderfully.
I bunged it in itunes late one night, and all the info was there for me to see with no tagging hassles.

    What more can I say?

Have a well deserved rest, mate!

P.S:-Are the mp3's & jpeg's pictures of the CD's/12"s all yours, or sourced from all over? (Not that it really matter, of course..)

    BR.

  14. This is absolutely incredible. It's a shame the licensing would be nigh-impossible in the real world. Thanks so much!

  15. @Peter Tron: Thanks for the feedback. I wish that I would own all of them but the pictures came mostly from discogs.com. There is a wonderful foobar2000 plugin which allows tagging and downloading of the images see http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=50523
During my research I found that especially many compilations on which tracks appeared were just mediocre so as a whole they were not worth to be purchased and I am not a collector of physical storage media ;)

  16. @Brakhage: Who knows, Aphex Twin did such a thing years ago, but with a considerable less amount of tracks.

  19. The Neu! covers date from 1998, off "A Homage To Neu!" v/a cd (Cleopatra CLP 0300-2, 1998). "Not really a cover of "Weissensee"; we took parts from "Im Glück" & "Weissensee" and merged the tracks" + "we chose our favourite tracks".

  20. Team Doyobi has a fault. Kinesthesia twice? Schaft = Maki Fuji of Soft Ballet and Hisashi Imai of Buck-Tick. As for Buck-Tick (Atsushi Sakurai, Hisashi Imai, Hidehiko Hoshino, Yutaka Higuchi & Toll Yagami): from track 5 of "シェイプレス" (Sheipuresu = shapeless) cd on Invitation / Victor Entertainment Japan (VICL- 550, VIZL-18) in 1994.
